Why Perfectionism Is Wrecking Your Health Routine (And What to Do Instead)
Good is better than perfect – especially when it comes to sleep, food, and movement
Most people fail at improving their health because they’re trying to do too much, too fast, too perfectly.
They want the ideal workout plan, the cleanest diet, the perfect sleep schedule. But the second real life shows up – work stress, travel, kids, just plain exhaustion – they fall off the plan completely.
Why?
Because perfection is fragile. It doesn’t survive reality.
And as I often tell my patients – the enemy of good is perfect.
Don’t Have Time to Exercise? Then Do What You Can
You don’t need a 90-minute gym session to be active.
No time to train? Go for a walk.
Stuck at home? Do air squats while you brush your teeth.
Tight on energy? Stretch before bed.
There’s always something you can do – and it’s always better than nothing.
Movement doesn’t need to be optimized. It just needs to happen.
Can’t Quit Sugar or Caffeine? Start Smaller
If you’re addicted to sugar, I’m not telling you to go cold turkey and eat nothing but kale.
Cut one thing.
Skip dessert twice a week.
Stop buying the one snack you binge at night.
Can’t quit caffeine? That’s fine. Start by cutting one cup.
If you improve by 1% every day, you’ll be unrecognizable in a year.
Don’t underestimate what small, consistent choices do for your metabolism, your stress levels, and your ability to get deep, restorative sleep.
Health Isn’t Complicated – We Just Make It That Way
Too many people turn wellness into a giant, overwhelming project – something that takes total commitment and mental bandwidth they don’t have.
But health isn’t complicated. You already know what to do:
- Move your body
- Eat real food
- Get morning sunlight
- Go to bed at a consistent time
- Put your phone away at night
Do those things 80% of the time and you’ll be ahead of 90% of people.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to stop giving up when you’re not.
Support Doesn’t Mean Dependency
Doing your best doesn’t mean you won’t need help.
Some nights, your brain won’t shut off – even if your habits are solid. That’s where support can make a difference.
Sleep Remedy was built exactly for this – to restore your body’s natural ability to fall asleep and stay asleep without melatonin overload, without grogginess, and without dependence.
It’s not a crutch. It’s a tool – for when you’re doing your best, but your nervous system needs a little help to shut down and recover.
